3 Free Places to Enjoy in Hawaii Without Spending a Dime

If you’re visiting Hawaii and want to experience its beauty without breaking the bank, here are three free spots that locals and travelers both love:

1. Kailua Beach Park
Located on Oahu’s windward side, Kailua Beach Park is famous for its turquoise waters and soft white sand. It’s perfect for swimming, kayaking, or simply relaxing under the palm trees.
The beach has plenty of parking and picnic tables, making it ideal for families and solo travelers alike.

I visited Kailua a few days after my trip began, and it completely changed how I saw Oahu.
The shoreline felt longer than Waikiki’s, stretching endlessly under the sunlight.
There were fewer people, just quiet waves and open space — full of calm and peace.
It’s one of those places that stays in your mind long after you leave.
Next time I visit Hawaii, I’ll definitely stay somewhere near Kailua Beach.

2. Yokohama Bay (Keawaula Beach)
On the far west side of Oahu, Yokohama Bay is one of the island’s most untouched beaches.
It’s known for its crystal-clear water, wide open sands, and the stunning view of the Waianae mountain range.
There are no shops or crowds here — just pure nature and silence.
Bring water and snacks, as facilities are minimal.

I couldn’t capture it in photos, but small crabs were everywhere along the rocky cliffs.
My child wanted to keep watching them, but the slope was steep, so we had to step back for safety — a little regret that still lingers.
The waves sometimes rose high and powerful, crashing against the shore with perfect timing.
I tried to catch that moment with my camera, hoping to keep a piece of that energy with me.

3. Ko Olina Lagoons
These man-made lagoons are open to the public and ideal for swimming or relaxing.
The calm water is perfect for families and beginners.

Ko Olina has four lagoons in total, each shaped like a soft crescent.
It feels like the perfect resort area — calm, clean, and endlessly peaceful.
Luxury hotels surround it, but I stayed in an Airbnb nearby, which made the experience quieter and more personal.

Part of me hopes this place doesn’t become too famous.
If it stays a little hidden, maybe it will remain as peaceful as it is now — less crowded, less expensive, and just… still.
It’s the kind of place that makes you selfishly wish it would never change.
For families, I can’t imagine a better spot.
It was simply beautiful. Truly.
